Moderate Politicians (modeRATE Politicians) is an independent project that analyzes the official United States Congressional record — legislation, voting records, and politician statements — using AI to summarize and categorize what happened. We do NOT import outside news or media sources. Every summary and category cites and links back to the underlying official record so you can verify it yourself.
The editorial work on this site is performed by OpenAI’s GPT model (currently GPT-5-mini), which serves as our chief editor. This means that AI is responsible for generating summaries, categorizing topics, and describing bias levels based exclusively on official U.S. government sources. GPT does not introduce external commentary or opinion. Instead, it processes text directly from the Congressional Record, legislation documents, and verified metadata from the Library of Congress.
We use only official U.S. government materials for our data: the Congressional Record, bill texts, actions, roll call votes, and member statements as published by the Library of Congress (Congress.gov). Every analysis item includes source links back to the official record so you can inspect the original text.
We use OpenAI APIs to generate concise summaries, topical categories, and bias labels for official texts. The model is constrained to our curated excerpts and metadata, and outputs are post‑processed with deterministic rules. Each AI output clearly cites the underlying Congressional source.
Note: AI can be wrong. If you see something off, please flag it using the feedback widget on any item or email us. We review and correct issues promptly.
Despite our name, we are NOT positioning the site as a home for “moderate” politics or endorsing any ideology. Our bias labels are descriptive, not prescriptive. They reflect the language and positions present in the official text — not our opinion. Labels are meant to be comparable across items and always come with a link to the source.
When we learn of a material error in a summary, category, label, or link, we correct it and append a timestamped note to the affected page. Minor copyedits that do not change meaning may be updated silently.
We do not accept money, content, or direction from political campaigns, parties, or advocacy groups. If we ever receive in‑kind contributions, sponsorships, or data access that could present a conflict, we will disclose those in a public.
This project is funded by memberships. Membership currently costs $1.00/month and unlocks historical analysis and daily/weekly updates by issue. Moderate Politicians LLC uses Stripe as a third party for handling payments.
We market our site on platforms like Reddit. Our ads promote access to official Congressional information and our analysis features; they do not advocate for or against any candidate or legislation. On-site, we currently do not run third‑party political advertisements. If this changes, we will clearly label ad content.
We welcome critique and contributions that improve accuracy and clarity. Keep feedback civil and specific. Harassment, hate speech, or spam will be removed.
